Antique Primitive Oak Footstool with Decorative Sunburst Cutout
£575Subject to availability

Description
This antique footstool possesses a wonderful "primitive" charm, showcasing the honest simplicity of vernacular country furniture. The most eye-catching feature is the elaborate central cutout, a sunburst or flower-head motif composed of eight radiating keyhole apertures that serves both as a decorative folk-art element and a functional carry handle.
The stool is sturdily constructed from thick oak planks, featuring a heavy slab top supported by two splayed trestle-style legs. The legs are hand-shaped with a gentle arch to the base, providing excellent stability, and are secured to the top using traditional recessed joinery that reflects its rugged, utilitarian origins.
The oak has acquired a remarkably deep, dark patina over more than a century of domestic use, highlighting the tight, dense grain of the timber. There is no applied hardware, as the piece relies entirely on the strength of its timber and the craftsmanship of its hand-cut apertures for its visual appeal.
